Reports and Announcements
The OGC Meeting was held last week, hosted by CIESIN and others at Columbia.
Most of the discussion surrounded the March 7 OGC demo. The demo will showcase
GML 3, WMS, WCS, WFS, and a catalog server, and will be based around a disaster scenario for NYC.
The Federation meeting included a ClusterFest, in which our Cluster showed two products:
MapServer (by Jamie Smedson from UMinn) and a WCS client (by Liping Di) that enabled
users to display data in a spreadsheet and/or render as an image.
Geospatial one-stop was mentioned as a commitment by the Federal government to GIS interoperability.
Proposed Federation Technical Workshop
The Interoperability Committee, cosponsor the Workshops, presented the proposal to the Federation.
Funding now appears as a line item in the Federation budget (yet to be approved).
The next Federation meeting will be the week of May 13, with a DC location to be announced.
GIS Services Brochure
The initial GIS insert into the P&S brochure is complete. It can be updated at any time by
sending revisions/additions to Rob.
Showcase for the May meeting
We plan to showcase our GIS capabilities at the May Federation meeting. We discussed the
advantage of a "functional" scenario (e.g. for Education or e-commerce) as opposed to a
geographically-oriented scenario (which might limit the number of contributing ESIPs).
It will be desirable to make this a real scenario rather than a simulated one.
